Water and Sanitation Cabinet Secretary Eric Muuga has urged residents of Meru County to support President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki in the 2027 General Election to allow them to complete ongoing development projects across the country.

Muuga called on Kenyans to elect leaders with a proven development record, cautioning against politicians who rely on divisive politics, abusive language and empty rhetoric to gain political mileage.

Speaking at Kamitongu Forest in Tigania West Constituency, Meru County, during Mazingira Day tree-planting celebrations, the Cabinet Secretary urged the Meru community to embrace unity and rally behind the President and his deputy.

He said unity was essential for the community to maintain its influence in national leadership and continue benefiting from government development programmes.

“Let us shun divisive politics and embrace unity in order to continue enjoying the national cake. We must rally behind President Ruto and his Deputy, Kithure Kindiki, because the duo has an impressive development record. We should give them another chance to complete the projects they have initiated by re-electing them in 2027,” said Muuga.

The CS criticised some political leaders for engaging in personal attacks instead of contributing to national development, saying voters should assess leaders based on their performance and tangible achievements rather than physical appearance or political rhetoric.

He urged residents to elect development-conscious leaders capable of delivering meaningful services to the public.

“Let us elect leaders who are conscious of development and avoid judging them based on their physical appearances. Some leaders have no tangible development projects to show on the ground and only rely on empty rhetoric to gain political mileage and sympathy votes,” he said.

Muuga also rallied support for Deputy President Kindiki, describing him as an accessible leader who was ready to assist whenever opportunities arose.

He urged leaders to provide accurate information to the public and avoid spreading what he termed as unfounded claims about the Deputy President.

“Let us support him because he is accessible. I urge other leaders to give credible information to our people and stop unnecessary lies. Unity of purpose is the way to go. Only by supporting one of our own can we maintain the position of Deputy President,” said Muuga.
On the fight against illicit alcohol, the Cabinet Secretary pledged his support for efforts to curb illegal brews, warning that the menace threatened the future of the youth and could wipe out an entire generation if left unchecked.
He also encouraged Kenyans to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA), saying access to healthcare required individuals to take responsibility for their health coverage.
Muuga further urged young people to register as voters ahead of the 2027 General Election, noting that participation in the electoral process would enable them to influence the country’s leadership.
Turning to environmental conservation, the CS called on residents to embrace tree planting and protect forests, saying the ecosystems were essential for water conservation, wildlife survival and livelihoods.
He noted that Kamitungu Forest provided a habitat and breeding ground for elephants, which depend on the availability of water and a healthy environment to thrive.
“If we do not plant trees, the elephants will not come. This is our heritage, which supports livelihoods both in Kenya and abroad. Most water sources are bare and need to be revived at all costs. It is our responsibility to safeguard and protect forests to ensure adequate water and a suitable environment for elephants to breed,” he said.
