Learners in Tharaka Nithi County are set to benefit from improved access to learning materials after the Kenya Literature Bureau (KLB) donated books worth Ksh3 million to support Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE).

The donation, made through KLB’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme, is part of an education partnership between the county government and the publisher that began in 2018.

The consignment, which included teacher guides and course books, was handed over by Mr. Francis Gikundi on behalf of KLB Managing Director Mr. George Okeyo during a ceremony attended by county education officials.

Speaking during the event, Tharaka Nithi County Chief Officer for Education, Vocational Training and Culture, Mr. Mwiti Mono, said investment in ECDE is critical in laying a strong educational foundation for children.

“A strong educational foundation in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) is essential in shaping the future of every child and the nation at large,” said Mr. Mono.

He noted that the donated books will benefit 436 ECDE centres across the county by enhancing teaching and learning among young learners.

“The books are expected to significantly improve access to quality learning materials in 436 ECDE centres across Tharaka Nithi County, thereby strengthening early childhood education and enhancing teaching and learning outcomes for young learners,” he added.

Mr. Mono further revealed that the county government had previously procured books worth Ksh9 million from KLB as part of efforts to improve standards in ECDE centres. He also said the county had collaborated with KLB in training ECDE teachers on the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

According to the county official, the partnership has contributed greatly to improving the quality of education and learning outcomes among children in the county.

Mr. Gikundi praised the long-standing collaboration between KLB and the county government, saying the institution remains committed to supporting education initiatives.

“KLB will continue to partner with the county government to strengthen education programmes and improve learning outcomes,” said Gikundi.

He added that KLB is dedicated to working with county governments across the country to ensure learners access quality educational resources.
