Tharaka Nithi Deputy Governor Nyaga Muisrael has called on politicians seeking elective seats in the upcoming elections to conduct peaceful campaigns and refrain from insulting their opponents.
Muisrael spoke during the burial ceremony of Mwalimu Elder Bernard Nyaga held at Kiamucii area in Mugwe Ward. The event was also attended by Mugwe Member of County Assembly Mr Jacob Kiriko and other local leaders.
The late Bernard Nyaga was eulogized as a respected educationist and influential community leader who greatly contributed to the development of the Chuka region. Leaders noted that he served as the councillor and was also a Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) official.
Speakers at the ceremony further described him as instrumental in the growth of cooperative societies, having served as chairperson of the former Giant Chuka Farmers’ Cooperative Society.
He was also credited with contributing to the construction of Chuka Farmers House and for persuading the PCEA fraternity to surrender land that later paved the way for the establishment of Chuka University.
Addressing mourners, Muisrael said residents are more interested in development agendas and leadership records rather than political attacks.
“Voters want to know what is in our manifesto and not how much we can insult others,” said Muisrael.
He added that wananchi will judge leaders based on the work they have done while serving in public office and not through empty political rhetoric.
