Tharaka Nithi County officially launched the Kenya Military Veterans Tharaka-Nithi Chapter, marking a significant step toward strengthening the welfare and coordination of retired service personnel within the region.

The launch ceremony, held at Picnic Grounds in Chuka town, was graced by Tharaka Nithi County Chief Officer for Public Administration, Intergovernmental Coordination and Devolution Affairs, Mr. Antony Kiruja, who represented H.E. Governor Muthomi Njuki as the Chief Guest.

The event brought together senior government officials, including Tharaka Nithi County Commissioner Mr. David Gitonga, as well as senior serving and retired military officers led by Ambassador Major General (Rtd) Lucas Tumbo, Chairperson of the Kenya Defence Forces Military Veterans Advisory Committee.

In remarks delivered on his behalf, Governor Njuki emphasized the importance of recognizing and integrating retired military officers into county development frameworks, noting that their extensive experience, discipline, and leadership remain a valuable national asset.

He urged stakeholders to embrace military veterans in appreciation of their dedicated service to the country, adding that their expertise can play a key role in strengthening governance structures and driving socio-economic development at the county level.

The newly established chapter is expected to enhance coordination, welfare support, and meaningful engagement of military veterans across Tharaka Nithi County, fostering closer collaboration between veterans and government institutions.
