Incidents of banditry and its devastating effects on the people of the Northern Rift Valley Region have so far been contained by 70 percent.
Speaking during the inspection tour of the progress on the establishment of new security facilities in bandits-prone areas of Karanga Joto, at the border of Baringo North and Tiaty Sub-Counties in Baringo County on Tuesday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof Kithure Kindiki said the government is aimed at completely eradicating the historical menace next year.
He said to end criminal activities; the government will destroy its political, cultural and commercial networks.
“The suppression of bandit terror will give way to opening up of the region through social amenities, economic infrastructure and durable peacebuilding programs spearheaded by the government but involving non-governmental stakeholders,” said CS Prof Kindiki.
Prof Kindiki distributed Christmas season celebrations food items to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) and Rapid Deployment Unit(RDU) camps in Ngaratuko, Kagir, Loruk and at Loruk Police Station, Yatya Police Post and to the local National Police Reservists (NPRs).
The meeting which also saw Prof Kindiki share a Boxing Day meal with the officers was also attended by the Regional, County and Sub-County heads of security agencies and Unit Field Commanders.
Residents of the bandit-prone areas have lauded CS prof Kindiki and the entire Kenya Kwanza Government for its effort to bring peace to the areas where they have never known peace since independence.
Prof Kindiki has been rated the best performing CS in President William Ruto’s cabinet by all the pollsters since 2022 when the Kenya Kwanza Government took over the country’s leadership from retired president, Uhuru Kenyatta’s government.
