Two supects arrested with the elephant tusks

Two men among them a police officer are being held at Meru police station after they were arrested in possession of ivories.
According to a police report seen by the PEAK under OB number 41/1208/2023 at 1405 Hrs., the two were arrested at around 0800hrs at Winners Hotel Makutano in Meru township within Meru County by officers attached to KWS.
The security team intercepted a motor vehicle bearing registration number KCG 749F, a Toyota probox white in colour and arrested two suspects; Harrison Gitonga Kanake, a Tharaka aged 27 years, a police officer attached to Tutua police station in Buuri East subcounty and Hassan Ali Galgalo a Borana male aged 49 years.
Upon conducting a search of the motor vehicle, a total of 23 pieces of elephant tusks hidden in eight gunny bags all weighing 79.6 kilograms with a street value of Sh12,000,000, a handcuff and one police button were recovered.
The suspects were placed under custody to be charged with the offence of being in possession of wildlife trophies of endangered species contrary to section 92(4) of the wildlife conservation management act 2013.
