Three men were last night arrested in Kajekeru village in Embu County on suspicion of slaughtering donkeys for sale.
The meat was reportedly destined for Barma market Nairobi where unsuspecting city dwellers would feast.
The three, Stanley Thuranira, George Maringa and Anastasia Wanyama were reportedly found packing meat of 20 donkeys into a vehicle, Noah registration No. KDD 782T by police officers from Runyenjes Police Station and Sleuths from Embu East DCI office.
The suspect reportedly tried to attack the officers forcing the latter to shot in the air and that is when they surrendered.
The suspects were armed with crude weapons including, three pangas, 12 knives, one bow and 6 arrows which they used to kill and skin the beast of burden and to protect themselves.
The officers have lauded the unity between them and the members of the public that enabled the arrest of the suspects who are expected to be arraigned in court after processing.
