A school in Tharaka South Sub County has been closed until Tuesday next week following students’ unrest over what they termed as poor diet, lack of water, and writing books among other several problems.
According to a source, Ngonya Day and Boarding Mixed Secondary School has been facing several challenges with students being forced to fetch water in the neighbouring River Kathita posing a great risk.
School principal Mr Franklin Mutegi Mukobwa had to flee for safety from the angry students who threatened to beat him up.
Last term the students also went on rampage over the same challenges forcing police from Marimanti Police Station to intervene.
In the same last term, parents also held demonstrations demanding the transfer of Mukobwa but The Peak learned that the Tharaka-Nithi County TSC office declined to transfer ‘a problem’ to another school in line with the commission’s policy.
The principal has also been facing rejection in several schools on accusations of mismanagement and looting of school resources.
Before landing in Ngonya, he had been transferred from Turima Hill Mixed Day Secondary after similar accusations.
Earlier, he had been ‘chased’ from a school in Maara constituency after parents held demonstrations and ejected him.
