The Department of Trade, Investment Promotion, Energy, and Industry in Tharaka Nithi County has initiated the inspection of liquor business premises across all sub-counties.
Spearheaded by Deputy Governor H.E Muisrael Nyaga, this endeavour aims to enforce adherence to regulations and facilitate the issuance of 2024 licenses and permits.
The deputy governor in his speech emphasized that a responsible and well-regulated liquor industry is crucial for the county’s economic growth as well as social well-being.
“This inspection is an essential step in ensuring that licensed businesses operate within the law, upholding high standards for public safety and health,” said the deputy governor.
Comprising officials from both the county and national governments, the inspection teams will visit establishments that have applied for liquor business licenses over the next two weeks.
Business owners or their designated representatives are mandated to be present during the inspection and provide unrestricted access to the premises.
“We encourage all liquor business license applicants to fully cooperate with the inspection teams,” urged Benson Njeru, Chief Officer overseeing the sector.
“This presents an opportunity to address any potential issues and ensure a smooth licensing process,” he added.
County Secretary Alexander Muratha, who also chairs the County Liquor Licensing Committee, stressed the committee’s dedication to fairness and transparency.
“As the Chair of the County Liquor Licensing Committee, we are committed to conducting the licensing process with integrity and fairness,” he affirmed.
Muratha noted that their goal as a government is to foster a business environment that complies with regulatory standards while promoting economic growth within the county.
Tharaka Nithi County remains steadfast in prioritizing a safe and responsible liquor industry through these inspections, aiming to create an environment beneficial for both businesses and the community.
County Attorney Frankline Mwendani cautioned that operating without a license carries serious consequences, adding that the inspection period offers an opportunity to regularize businesses and avoid legal repercussions.
“We urge all liquor establishments to fully cooperate and embrace responsible practices that contribute to the county’s positive development,” he said.
