Police Officers in Chuka were forced to use teargas to disperse Chuka University students who had blocked Meru-Nairobi highway at Ndagani to protest the killing of their colleague by a speeding vehicle, an incident that took place on Saturday.
The irate students said they could not take anymore of such incidences as they have lost many students through such accidents.
They blamed Kenya National Highway Authority (KENHA) for what they referred to as negligence and sleeping on their job on the matter.
“We have been complaining of this issue for long and what Kenya has done is to erect a bump which has not changed a thing. We have also seen them here this morning taking some measurements which I think is a way to silence us,” said Mr Brian Mugisagi, a student at the University.
He proposed construction of a flyover near the institution which will protect the more than 25,000 students at the institution.
Babra, another student at the University said KENHA should erect at least three bumps near the institution even as they wait for the construction of the flyover….more to follow.
