Coffee farmers from Kajiara factory -Igamurathi Sublocation Muthambi ward in Tharaka Nithi County are counting losses of more than 400K after 800kgs of parchment coffee and 4100 cherry coffee was stolen on Sunday.
Speaking to The Peak Denis Mwandiki Chairman New Muthambi Farmers Society which consists of Kajiara and Rwanderi factory said he received a call from the watchmen who informed him of the theft.
According to Mwandiki is that the factory would have incurred more losses were it that they hadn’t kept the coffee in their stores but had transported it to Giampampo Coffee Millers immediately they were done packing.
Mwandiki has said they were in the process of making arrangements on how they will install CCTV cameras in the two factories so as to avoid such incidences in future.
Timothy Njagi, one of the farmers has requested the factory to ensure they fence the whole factory land so as to avoid intruders at night and even during the weekend whereas Njeru Harrison also a farmer requested that when the management is hiring watchmen to ensure they undertake them through intensive training that would help them guard the factory.
The incident has been reported at Marima police post for investigations.
