The County Department of Finance, Economic Planning, Revenue and Resource Mobilization on Thursday conducted consultative forums for the 2025-2026 County Annual Development Plan (CADP) across 8 sub-counties.
Residents were invited to take part in the process through submissions of proposals on priority projects as well as submissions of memoranda on possible sources of funding as well as cost saving measures.
Speaking at Chuka Picnic Grounds, CECM Lawrence Rweria said among the key sectors discussed include road and water projects, improvement of dispensaries, and street lighting extending to tea buying centres and bodaboda sheds.
“We are going to consider all the proposed projects and prioritize those that will be included in the budget. We expected a higher turn up since we didn’t want anyone to miss out. Moving forward more sensistization will be made to attract more numbers.”, he said.
The Finance boss highlighted limited resources as a major challenge to county budgeting, which often leads to stalled projects.
“When we prioritize projects after raising funds through own source revenue and allocations from the national government, funds are not released in time from government to allow for actualization of the projects. Projects stall due to limited resources”, he said.
Kenneth Njagi, a youth leader in the county asked the county government to prioritize the youth and sports sector and organize tournaments to support local talent.
“We have many sports clubs which are not supported with proper kits, equipment and facilities. We are asking county government to prioritize that, and organise tournaments for those clubs to grow and nurture talents”, he said.
Other notable proposals include the improvement of roads to ease transportation of farm produce to the markets, additional milk coolants and inclusion of sexual productive health information in public hospitals.
