Gikui residents in Igoji East, Imenti South Sub-County have donated 33 acres of ancestral land for the construction of a TVET institution.
In a public participation held on Tuesday 27 June 2023, the residents unanimously agreed that the TVET institution would be a big socio-economic boost in the locality, with admissions set to commence in September this year.
Leaders present at the public participation led by Meru County Economic Advisor Gideon Kimathi assured the residents of the full backing from Governor Kawira Mwangaza, further asking that the idea not be politicized.
The land initially hosted Igoji Boys High School, before it was used by the former county regime under the Meru Youth Service.
Igoji East MCA Damiano Muchui and former MCA Johnpaul Kireeria expressed their full support to the project, where Muchui acknowledged that he had facilitated the enrollment of over 200 students to technical schools in other areas saying that the availability of an institution around would help sponsor more students.
According to KK Market Chairman James Nkonge, residents agreed to have the primary school hosted on the land relocated to pave way for the TVET Institution.
