More than 300 people have been arrested across the country in the Wednesday demonstration against the government, Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Prof Kithure Kindiki has confirmed.
Through a press statement sent to our media house on Wednesday evening, Kindiki said they will be charged with various crimes including looting, malicious damage of property, arson, robbery with violence, assaulting law enforcement officers among others.
The CS maintained that except for isolated cases and breach of peace in a few spots in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Migori, Homabay, Siaya and Nakuru Counties, Wote and Emali Towns , the rest of the country remained calm and members of the public conducted their activities in the usual manner.
He said the police acted professionally and with restraint in the management of provocative situations that arose in the course of Wednesday.
Upon review of the security situation, the Ministry of Education has been advised that learning may resume in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu Counties as security agencies continue to protect lives and the properties of all Kenyans across the country.
“The Government commends the exemplary work of law enforcement agencies who remained on duty for long hours in order to ensure that criminals do not disrupt public orders,” said the CS.
He said Security agencies remain alert and will increase the operational capabilities tomorrow and the days ahead to ensure that normalcy is maintained and the country does not slide into anarchy.
