SportPesa will now sponsor the National Rugby 7s Circuit which will feature as SportPesa National Sevens Circuit.
The partnership will see SportPesa inject KShs 15 million in this year’s rugby sevens circuit, set to be reviewed and renewed annually for 3 years.
Speaking during a breakfast with the Kenya Rugby Union, National Rugby players (Shujaa and Lionesses) players and representatives from the participating teams in the circuit, SportPesa CEO Hon. Cpt. Ronald Karauri gave an assurance on their commitment to grow local rugby talent in the country.
“We will continue to invest in our national team and do further support for the local clubs. We are confident that with the right leadership in place, we will see budding talent come out of the SportPesa 7s circuit. Our support and strong commitment should be a steering force to make this vision a reality,” he said.
The new deal will see circuit hosting teams receive KShs 1 million to go towards putting up successful tournaments while up to KShs 2.5 million will finance prize money for winning teams and participants in the circuit.
KShs 5 million will support the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) administration.
“As a new office, we know we will eventually get back to the world stage as soon as possible. We commend SportPesa because their journey with rugby goes a long way, this is a beginning of greater things to come, starting with the SportPesa National Sevens Circuit,” Kenya Rugby Union CEO, Alexander Mutai said.
SportPesa is also set to inject 22,000,000 shillingsinto the Shujaa 7s build-up after they were relegated from the World Sevens Rugby Series.
The 2023 SportPesa Sevens Circuit kicks off at the Dala 7s in Kisumu.
