Fear and grief have engulfed the family of John Mucunku in Makeuni village-Maara where the murder suspect in the killing of a 5-year-old boy continues to threaten the family.
The suspect, James Muthaura is said to have murdered the boy and dumped the body in River Tungu where it was recovered by police officers.
According to Maara DCIO Ms.Jacinta Mbaika, operations to track the suspect have been futile, confirming that the last recorded signal places the suspect near Kagaene in Meru County before his phone went off.
The 5-year-boy identified as Francis Macharia is said to have been kidnapped by his Uncle (the suspect) on Wednesday 14th June 2023.
According to reports, the death of the 5-year-old boy comes in the wake of a series of threats to John Mucunku asking him to allow his daughter Annette Mukiri (the suspect’s wife) return to their matrimonial home in Mugwe Chuka.
While speaking to the media, Annette noted that she fled her home due to constant threats on her life, violence and torture from the suspect.
On Monday 12th June 2023, the suspect is said to have attacked and injured John Mucunku and his sister- in-law Diana Gakii, before disappearing and vowing to return for lives of the four remaining family members.
