The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has announced a recruitment drive aimed at hiring 1,500 assistant warders and rangers. The announcement, made on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, outlined the need for dynamic individuals capable of enduring the challenges of remote environments.
“The Service operates in remote environments and seeks to recruit 1,500 young and dynamic individuals as cadets (Assistant Warden I) – 150 and Rangers – 1,350 who can endure the condition for training and deployment to various conservation areas in response to the wildlife protection challenges currently being experienced in the country,” stated KWS.
According to KWS, the recruitment process targets individuals with specific qualifications and attributes. Candidates applying for the position of Cadet (Assistant Warden I) must meet several criteria, including being Kenyan citizens, holding a Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields, being 28 years old or below, and possessing a clean criminal record. Additionally, applicants must be prepared to undergo a mandatory nine-month paramilitary training program before deployment.
Similarly, candidates interested in the Ranger positions must meet certain requirements, including being Kenyan citizens, aged between 18 and 26 years, physically and medically fit, and having a clean criminal record. The recruitment for Rangers will span across the country and will involve a six-month mandatory paramilitary training program.
Application forms for both positions can be obtained free of charge from the nearest KWS National Park Station or downloaded from the KWS website. The deadline for submitting applications is April 8, 2024, at 4:30 pm. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews.
For the recruitment of Rangers, the process will take place from April 15 to April 19, 2024. Candidates are advised to arrive in appropriate running gear and present filled application forms along with relevant documents and identification.
