Maara Constituency Member of Parliament Kareke Mbiuki has exhibited faith in the recent nomination of Kithure Kindiki as Deputy President, describing him as the right candidate to restore unity in the country.
Addressing a press briefing at his home in Maara, the MP stated that the biggest task ahead for the government was to bring back peace and unity based on recent happenings in the nation.
“We are confident that Kithure Kindiki will use his wisdom and skills to reconcile the region and the nation at large in efforts to restore unity. We have no doubts he will replicate his leadership as Cabinet Secretary in his new role. He knows how to work with other leaders and respect his bosses, something Gachagua failed to do”, he said.
According to Kareke, President William Ruto’s administration should now shift focus to deliver promises made to the people in the last elections, highlighting that a majority of the people had lost faith with the government especially with the tough economic times.
The MP noted challenges within sectors such as the new university funding model, transition from NHIF to SHA and unemployment which he said have to be fixed.
“We must ensure we deliver all what was promised by the Kenya Kwanza administration through the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA)”, he added.
In his address, Kareke hinted that Kindiki’s swearing in as the next Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya would only happen if it received greenlight from the Judiciary, where a bench of High Court Judges appointed by the Chief Justice is set to handle the case on 24 October.
The High Court in Kerugoya issued orders barring Kithure Kindiki from assuming the Deputy President’s office pending the hearing and determination of the case.
“Let us give the courts a chance to listen to all the sides and determine the case. We believed he would be sworn in immediately but the courts have halted this process. We are however hopeful that the courts will rule in our favor”, he said.
The MP noted Kindiki’s support was beyond Mt Kenya, terming him as a national leader who is supported and loved overwhelmingly by leaders and residents across the nation.
“The motion to impeach Rigathi Gachagua was passed in both houses of Parliament and supported by Kenyans through public participation. Elected leaders, including those from the Minority voted in support of Kindiki’s nomination as Deputy President”, Kareke said.
He additionally thanked President William Ruto for nominating Kindiki and finding him fit to be the second in command.
