To successfully deal with the threat of terrorism and violent extremism, the government is deploying special forces and elite units in Northern Kenya and Upper Coastal regions to ruthlessly pursue and neutralize armed criminals who are terrorizing innocent citizens.
Addressing a security baraza at Wayu, Galledyertu Sub-County, Tana River County, Interior and National Administration Kithure Kindiki saluted multi-agency security officers who have fallen in the line of duty, defending the nation and its people from criminals.
He said the government will continue to equip the officers with modern weapons and technology to enhance their capacity to deal with criminals.
He noted that security officers who lawfully use weapons assigned to them to protect themselves from armed criminals as they ensure the safety and security of the residents and their property are assured of government protection.
Prof Kindiki said communities living in border areas must coexist peacefully and allow relevant government and judicial institutions to arbitrate whenever there are cross-border disputes.
The CS said National Government Administration officers are directed to help resolve all historical grievances without taking sides and that political leaders must desist from inciting members of the public in the guise of addressing historical grievances.
The official warned that leaders inciting violence and destruction of property will be apprehended and prosecuted notwithstanding their political affiliations.
“With the deployment of departmental heads of government agencies, Galledyertu is now a fully-fledged and operational sub-county. From October 1, this year, the government will deploy a contractor to construct sub-county headquarters,” said CS Prof Kindiki.
Tana River Governor Godhana Dhadho, Senator Danson Mungatana, Members of Parliaments and Members of the County Assembly also attended the security meeting.
