Athletics Kenya (AK) Embu branch has begun recruitment of under-20 teams that will set a permanent camp in Embu.
The branch has also began the selection of teams from the constituency level through the county championships where a team will be selected to participate in the Regional and National championship.
Athletics Kenya Chairman Embu Branch Stephen Njeru noted that moving forward an under-20 camp that is set to be running by 2024 will be a permanent base for talent identification and nurturing.
He noted that Embu County with a high altitude environment that is conducive for athletics training will go along way in maintaining talents and encouraging other teams to train in Embu.
Njeru Cautioned athletes against doping while advising them watch out on their diet and asked them to consult coaches or team doctors whenever they seek medication.
Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji observed that the Constituency and County at large will set a conducive environment to attract foreign teams who will help the county grow economically.
He noted that they are marketing Embu as a sports destination with the completion of Njukiri sports City whose construction will be launched by President William Ruto during the Madaraka day Celebrations on June 1.
Embu County has also benefited from the upgrading and renovations of Moi Stadium that will have six lanes.
