Eight students from Siakago Secondary School found themselves in Siakago Law Court today, facing charges of grievous harm against a fellow student. The arraignment took place before Senior Resident Magistrate Hon. Njoki Kahara, where all eight students firmly denied the allegations brought against them.
The accused individuals consist of four Form Four students and four Form Three students, alleged to have collectively inflicted grievous harm upon a Form Two student. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and the school itself.
Hon. Njoki Kahara presided over the hearing and granted the eight accused students conditional release. Each of them was required to post a bond of 150,000 Kenyan Shillings with a surety of the same amount or a cash bail of 75,000 Kenyan Shillings.
In her ruling, Hon. Njoki Kahara ordered that those among the accused who are 18 years or older and unable to meet the financial requirements be remanded at Embu Gk Prisons. Meanwhile, those under 18 years old would be remanded at Murang’a Children’s Remand Home.
The pretrial for this case is scheduled for October 9, 2023, and it is expected to shed further light on the circumstances surrounding this incident.
