Tharaka Nithi County Assembly Speaker Hon. John Mbabu has reiterated that construction of the County Assembly of Tharaka Nithi Chambers is ongoing at Kathwana.
Speaking during a site visit to witness the construction, Hon Mbabu said they were satisfied with the developments so far and were also looking forward to having the works completed.
“I can assure the people of Tharaka Nithi that satisfactory works are ongoing and I believe soon we will have the long awaited assembly chambers in Kathwana “, said the Speaker.
It is during his first tenure as the first speaker of Tharaka Nithi County Assembly that the plans to build a modern state of the art Assembly Chambers were conceived.
Since then the subject of construction of the chambers has been a subject to different public outcries and political exchange.
The process officially begun in 2022, when president Ruto visited Tharaka Nithi, and the Assembly construction was among key issues that the people of Tharaka Nithi raised claiming it as long overdue.
“In October 2024, the County Assembly advertised and awarded the tender for the construction whose initial plan was scaled down from Kshs. 340 Million to Kshs 200 Million and is expected to take two years,” the speaker added.
He was accompanied by the new clerk to the County Assembly Mr. Paul Thirika who
is hopeful of seamless funding for completion of construction within the timelines.
“The contractor has his team’s sleeves rolled up to work and deliver within the contractual timelines if the funding is timely made as well”, he added. The Chamber Contract Implementation Committee, led by Deputy Clerk Mr. Eric Nthumbi and comprising eight professionals from both the County Assembly and the County Executive is overseeing the process to ensure strict adherence to timelines and standards
