Members of the Weru Tea Factory Chuka Electoral Area have called for a by-election to elect a new Director after unanimously rejecting the Director elect, Mr. David Murithi.
The decision was made during a Special General Meeting held on Tuesday, July 16, convened to confirm the newly elected directors.
Fredrick Nyaki, Chairman of the Kenya Union of Small Scale Tea Owners (KUSSTO) and a local farmer, expressed his surprise at Murithi’s election.
“We did not vote on the voting day, yet it came as a surprise to find David Murithi elected as our director,” he said.
Farmers speaking to the press were unanimous in their mission to reject what they described as a self-elected director.
After hours of consultation, the other five confirmed directors agreed that the Chuka Zone must conduct a by-election.
Murithi declined to address the media regarding the matter.
The confirmed directors are:Gilbert Mwoga Gitari representing Mwimbi Central, Abidjan Jackson Ireri representing Muthambi, Mbui Augustine Silverius representing Magumoni, Kanini Edward Mutegi representing Mwimbi South, and Mberia Douglas Mbabu representing Mwimbi North
