Cabinet has today approved the establishment of a special committee on pending bills.
In a meeting chaired by President William Ruto at Statehouse, the Pending Bills Verification Committee was tasked with the auditing of liabilities for the period between 2005 and 2022, which stand at Ksh 481 billion while counties owe Ksh 159.9 billion.
Upon verification , the government will promptly settle any bills and recommendations made to the CS Treasury.
The final report will be submitted in 12 months.
To improve service delivery, accountability, and accessibility to services at the grassroots level, Cabinet approved the establishment of decentralization of the Office of the Attorney General and Department of Justice to all 47 counties.
Also approved was the transmission and introduction of the Tribunals Bill, 2023 to Parliament, with the aim of addressing the lack of accountability in the operations of the current tribunal system.
To support healthcare, agricultural transformation, and economic growth in the country, Cabinet approved the hosting of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s sub-regional office in Kenya.
Cabinet was also briefed on Kenya’s preparedness to host the 5th mid-year African Union coordination meeting, regional economic communities, and regional mechanisms from 13th to 16th July in Nairobi.
The status of the Digital Superhighway and digitalization of Government services was a ahead of the launch of over 5000 fully digitized services on Friday June 30th was also discussed.
