Residents of Tharaka Nithi County turned up in numbers across different parts of the county to celebrate Kithure Kindiki’s nomination as Deputy President on Friday.
In Chuka Town, members of the public took to the streets to celebrate the nomination, despite orders by the high court barring Kithure Kindiki from assuming the Deputy President’s office pending hearing and determination of the case.
In a press briefing, the residents noted that both houses of Parliament had followed due process in the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua and asked the courts to allow Kindiki assume office as the new second in command.
“We are happy that the Members of Parliament have unanimously agreed with President’s Ruto choice to have our son Kithure Kindiki as the next Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya. We are hopeful that the courts will agree with the decision, and allow Kithure Kindiki, who was the rightful candidate for the position to serve as Deputy President, said Karen Kendi.
The residents thanked President William Ruto for having faith in Kindiki’s leadership and considering him as a replacement for Rigathi Gachagua, where they added that Kindiki was capable of leading and serving the nation as the Deputy President.
“We are greatful to President Ruto for his faith in Kindiki and nominating him for the Deputy President position. The right procedures have been followed, let us handle all other issues when he is already in office”, Derrick Murimi said.
They further acknowledged that they had supported President Ruto’s pick of Rigathi Gachagua despite a majority of leaders supporting Kindiki for the position in 2022, adding it was Kindiki’s time to rise to power.
“We are happy the seat is back in Tharaka Nithi. What was ours is back to us. Our debt has been paid. Tharaka Nithi’s glory is set to shine even brighter with Kindiki as the Deputy President”, Doreen Mwende added.
Kerugoya Law Courts Justice Richard Mwongo has ruled that matters raised in the petition filed by David Munyi Mathenge and Peter Gichobi Kamotho be forwarded to Chief Justice Martha Koome to appoint a bench of High Court judges to handle the case, further directing the Applicants to serve the Respondents with the application by close of business on Friday, after which the Respondents should then file and serve their responses within three days.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has already gazetted Kithure Kindiki to take up the Deputy President position.
