Angry Parents stormed Keriani Primary School to protest and demand the transfer of the Deputy Head Teacher, Ms. Rose Ntwiga.
This is after the Deputy Head Teacher who is the Acting Head Teacher allegedly assaulted a Grade 8 pupil after a commotion with another pupil.
Speaking during the protest, the mother of the child said the Deputy assaulted and later had him arrested over a dispute involving a ruler and ten shillings with another student.
“When I came back with the boyto school, the teacher locked us in her office and later came back with police officers who took him to the police station,” she alleged.
One of the parents, Jackline Wa Murithi, also says that she witnessed the Deputy Head Teacher continously slapping the said pupil after he disobeyed her command to go home and instead went to his class.
The parents further complained of various issues including poor management and gross misconduct of Teachers and the Board of management.
“Our children are sent away from school for very minor issues including two thousand shillings for school fees. We give many foodstuffs to the school including maize and cabbage but we suspect that the teachers, led by the Deputy take this food and share it among themselves,” one Mr. Frankline Mwenda complained.
Additionally, the parents also complained of poor Latrine facilities within the school with the boys having two latrines and the girls only being served by three latrines. This according to the parents put the pupils at a disadvantage especially during the rainy season as they had to line up to use the facilities.
The area chief Ms. Linet Karimi and officers from the Ministry of Education arrived at the scene and calmed the parents, vowing to take legal action against the accused teacher.
