Tharaka-Nithi County Government is developing a spatial plan for the entire devolved unit. The document will assure that land and resources are used efficiently to support growth while preserving the environment.
Consultants from the University of Nairobi on Tuesday presented the draft of the Tharaka Nithi County Spatial Plan (CSP) to the county’s technical and administrative teams.
Also present at the meeting held at the devolved unit’s headquarters Kathwana were officials from the National Land Commission.
The plan covers key areas such as strategic land use management, infrastructure improvements, environmental protection, housing development, and economic growth.
County’s Road and Lands Executive Member Engineer Giti Kijiru said the plan will greatly guide development.
“Some towns or countries which continued with major development without an elaborate spatial plan have resulted to demolishing of infrastructure or even having white-elephant projects,” said Eng Kijiru.
The county led by Governor Muthomi Njuki also developed spatial plans for Kathwana municipality and Chuka town in collaboration with the same university.
