Governor Johnson Sakaja has launched a scathing attack on Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, urging him to “stop being a crybaby” amidst escalating political tensions within the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Addressing over 7,000 UDA grassroots delegates at Bomas of Kenya, Sakaja called on Gachagua to show respect for the presidency and other elected officials. His comments were a direct response to Gachagua’s recent complaints about political maneuvers allegedly aimed at undermining him.
“Haiwezi kuwa unanyanyasa watu, you have bullied people for two years, unatajwa wiki moja unaanza kulia, respect other leaders (You can’t bully people for two years and then start crying when you are mentioned in one week),” Sakaja said, highlighting past instances where Gachagua himself was accused of using intimidation tactics against fellow leaders.
The governor’s fiery remarks come amid growing rifts within the UDA, as competing factions vie for control ahead of the upcoming elections. The internal strife has particularly intensified over the question of who should be the next chairperson of the UDA in Nairobi County.
Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, who is reportedly backed by Gachagua, is a key figure in this power struggle.
