Few days after the end of the 56-days-long doctors’ strike, the Council of Governors has kick started talks with the Kenyan Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) aimed at ending the ongoing strike.
Led by CoG Health Committee Chairperson and Tharaka-Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki, the county chiefs are confident that they will iron out the outstanding issues as captured in their strike notice.
In todays meeting at the CoG headquarters in Westlands Nairobi, they laid down the issues up for discussion with KUCO insisting on honoring of the 2021 CBA that pushed for a risk allowance of Ksh15,000 per month.
CoG however stated that the relevant national government offices must also be on the negotiation table because counties don’t regulate payment.
Njuki said health is a devolved function and county governments cannot sit while all is not well and the fact that they are the ones to pay the agreed salaries.
“We have launched talks aimed at ending clinical officers strike,” said Njuki.
Mr Peterson Wachira, KUCO Chairperson welcomed the talks but insisted on the implementation of the earlier agreements.
Also present at the meeting is CoG Labour Committee Chairperson and Nyeri Governor, Mr Mutahi Kahiga among others.
