Prof. Rose -Margaret Ekeng-Itua from Nigeria is the first black woman in the world to acquire a doctorate degree in Cybernetics.
Prof. Rose-Margaret who has been instrumental in championing of young girls to embrace Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) studied in the University of Reading in the United Kingdom.
Cybernetics is the study of how information is communicated in machines and electronic devices in comparison with how information is communicated in the brain and nervous system.
She acquired her first degree in Electrical and electronic Engineering which was followed by a Master’s degree in Mobile and Satellite Communications Engineering in the UK.
Her First Ph.D supervisor has been Prof. Kevin Warwick who is the first human in the world to have his body taken over by electromechanical devices (human cyborg).
This comes as she strives hard in championing for solutions of challenges affecting Africa and its youth through innovations which has seen the Professor of Engineering with over 20 years experience. win several awards in STEM education in Africa, USA and Europe.
She is among the women in Africa fighting all odds against cultural setbacks and gender biases by pursuing scientific world and serves as an inspiration to the gild child in Africa in going for the male-dominated field.
The Professor now aims at impacting the world positively through cybernetics by ensuring technology enforces global unity, empower human beings and uplift communities through creativity, innovations and collaborations.
