Partnership between Government, Equity Bank, and Equity Foundation Aims to Empower 10,000 Young Entrepreneurs
Tharaka Nithi Woman Representative Susan Ngugi has encouraged the youth to capitalize on mentorship and literacy programs facilitated by the government, aiming to drive Kenya’s economic prosperity forward.
In a recent address at Chuka Town, Ngugi, who also serves as The Service Party (TSP) Deputy Party Leader, underscored the pivotal role of investing in the youth for the nation’s future. She revealed a collaborative effort between the government, Equity Bank, and Equity Foundation, through the “Youth INNET Challenge” initiative, designed to equip Kenyan youth with essential financial literacy and entrepreneurial skills.
The program, spanning four months, is set to empower 10,000 young individuals in its inaugural year, focusing on Entrepreneurship, E-Commerce, and Trading mastery. Grace Kariuki, the Equity Foundation Mt Kenya Program Coordinator, emphasized that the initiative integrates mentorship, coaching, and data-driven monitoring and evaluation, with a keen emphasis on fostering financial inclusion.
“This is a socio-economic transformation endeavor aimed at equipping Not in Education, Employment, or Training (NEET) youth across all 47 counties with the requisite skills and support to emerge as viable entrepreneurs,” expressed Kariuki.
Eligibility for the program extends to individuals aged between 18 and 35, with the application deadline set for May 13, 2024.
Ngugi articulated that the initiative presents a significant opportunity to eradicate exploitative business practices perpetrated by intermediaries, especially against small enterprises. She stressed that entrepreneurship training would empower youth to directly access markets and safeguard their hard-earned income.
“Our businesses often fall prey to intermediaries. This program will eradicate such challenges by imparting digital systems and E-commerce skills, enabling youth to effectively market and vend their products,” articulated Ngugi.
Additionally, Ngugi pledged that her office, in collaboration with NGAAF projects, would accord priority to groups and individuals participating in the INNET program, recognizing the value of skills acquired through the initiative.
The Woman Representative delivered her remarks during a gathering in Chuka Town, Chuka/Igambang’ombe Constituency, where she hosted a delegation from the Equity Bank Group and various stakeholders.
