Maara Constituency Member of Parliament (MP), Kareke Mbiuki, has declared plans for the establishment of the Maara Law Courts, a project expected to be undertaken by the Maara Constituency Development Fund (CDF) in partnership with the National Government.
In a statement shared on his official Facebook account, the 4-time parliamentarian emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, “This collaboration will enhance access to the judicial needs of our people…In the quest to bring judicial services closer to the people, through the Maara NG-CDF, the initiative has been prioritized in the financial year 2023/2024.”
The Maara Law Courts, slated to be constructed in the 2023/24 financial year, will serve as a center for legal proceedings and other judicial services within the constituency. The proposed site for the courthouse is Kieganguru, strategically chosen to alleviate the congestion experienced at the nearby Chuka Law Courts in the neighboring Chuka/Igambang’ombe Constituency.
Highlighting the importance of such infrastructure, Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Vice Chair Macharia Njeru, during a visit to the county six months ago, underscored the necessity for collaborative efforts between County Governments and CDF in the construction of court facilities. Njeru assured that the JSC stands ready to provide the necessary staffing and resources to equip the upcoming Maara Law Courts.
The announcement of the Maara Law Courts signals a significant step towards improving access to justice for residents of Maara Constituency, addressing long-standing challenges related to court congestion and accessibility.
