Chuka Igambang’ombe Constituency showcased a dominant performance as they clinched a resounding 4-0 victory over Mbeere North Constituency in their opening fixture of the Zone 7 Moses Kuria Cup Tournament, held at Kibugua Stadium.
The match, which took place on Saturday, 17th February 2024, witnessed a display of sheer skill and determination from the home team.
The encounter kicked off with fervor as Tonny Murimi, popularly known as “Swinka,” drew first blood for Chuka Igambang’ombe, expertly converting a penalty in the 28th minute. The penalty was awarded following a contentious foul on Reuben Kamau within the penalty box, setting the stage for an intense battle between the two sides.
Maintaining their momentum into the second half, Chuka Igambang’ombe demonstrated their tactical prowess, where the strategic team talk during halftime proved instrumental as Ian Kinyua doubled the lead in the 54th minute, capitalizing on an assist from winger Tonny Murimi.
The hosts further solidified their dominance with a third goal, courtesy of Reuben Kamau, who beautifully netted a pass from Tonny Murimi in the 62nd minute. Not content with a three-goal advantage, Ian Kinyua sealed the victory for Chuka Igambang’ombe with his second goal of the match in the 72nd minute, converting a freekick delivered by the impeccable Swinka.
Following the resounding victory, Coach James Murangiri commended his team for their exemplary performance, hailing it as a promising start to their campaign in the tournament. Expressing confidence in his squad, Murangiri conveyed his belief in their potential to emerge victorious in the upcoming matches.
However, amidst the celebration, Mbeere North Team Manager Dan Kariuki voiced concerns regarding match officiating, citing instances of alleged bias by home team referees. Kariuki urged for impartial officiating to ensure fair competition throughout the tournament.
In a gesture of appreciation, Vice Chairperson of Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Chuka Igambang’ombe Constituency, James Gitari, extended gratitude to the office of the Member of Parliament for their support in providing the team with essential match kits. Gitari emphasized the significance of corporate and individual sponsorship in nurturing talent at the grassroots level, underscoring the tournament’s role in fostering exposure and talent development.
With their spirits high, Chuka Igambang’ombe now sets their sights on their upcoming clash against Imenti Central.
