A G3 police firearm reported missing in September 2023 from the Kiaruyu Police Post in Mathira East, Nyeri County, has been successfully recovered.
The rifle was found at a residence within the Ndunyuruma village of Rwarela-Buuri East, Meru County, following a joint operation conducted by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Operations detectives, with support from officers at Mugae Police Post.
The recovery operation took a dramatic turn when a male suspect, believed to be associated with a criminal gang involved in the theft of another police firearm (an AK47), managed to evade capture upon learning of the police presence in the vicinity. However, he left behind the G3 rifle, which was discovered in the possession of his 30-year-old wife, Priscilla Ntinyari.
Additionally, Joseph Muriungi M’nabea, aged 40, was apprehended as a person of interest in the case. Interrogations are currently underway to ascertain M’nabea’s relationship with the fugitive, identified as George Mutembei.
This latest development follows closely on the heels of another success in the ongoing campaign against armed criminal activity. Just days prior, on February 2, 2024, an AK47 rifle stolen from the Kabonge Police Station in Kirinyaga was recovered, along with 18 rounds of ammunition.
