Tharaka Nithi County led by Governor Muthomi Njuki has been ranked best in Delivery of Quality Healthcare at 66 percent by the Timey Kenya research firm followed by Kisumu of Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o at 64.3 percent and Narok at 64.2 percent.
The report released on Thursday shows other top 10 counties are; Muranga (64 percent), Vihiga (63.3 percent), Makueni (60.4 percent), Kirinyaga (60.1 percent), Mandera (57.9 percent), Homabay (57.7 percent) and Kilifi (5 percent).
The report also indicates that the five counties with the poorest health care are; Turkana (30.5 percent), Tana River (308 percent), Kajiando (31 percent), Marsabit (34.1 percent) and Nyamira (34.6 percent).
The survey, which involved 7, 550 respondents from across the country intended to find out the state of healthcare services in devolved units.
The respondents were asked about the number of health centres and dispensaries, healthcare workers, availability of equipment, and the obtainability of drugs in the facilities.
The research firm led by Chief Executive Officer Rozalia Tadeusz, surveyed between January 5 to 20, using computer-assisted telephone interviews to generate data and was based on the governor’s one-year scorecard.
Governor Njuki has several times since 2017 when he took over the county leadership rated top in matters of healthcare services.
Recruitment of Community Health Promoters who have led to great improvement in Primary Healthcare has played a key role in Njuki’s success in the sector.
The survey also shows that the first-term governors are doing better than those serving their second terms.
