Members of the Tharaka Nithi County Assembly have been on a tour of Mombasa City since Wednesday, October 25.
According to reliable sources within the assembly, the coastal city tour is fully paid for by Governor Muthomi Njuki for only one agenda; taming the dissenting voices within the MCAs and redeeming the general dalliance with the House.
Our source revealed that there has been a go-slow among MCAs with the large population accusing Njuki of failing in development hence exposing them to attacks by the voters.
Marimanti MCA Kennedy Kamunyu alias Simba was recently forced to hire a tractor using his personal money to improve the ward roads as residents threatened to hold demonstrations against him.
During the Mashujaa Day celebrations, only three out of 15 MCAs attended the county event held at Kairuni Stadium in Maara constituency presided over by County Commissioner Wesley Koech and attended by Governor Njuki, his Deputy Nyaga Muisrael, Tharaka MP Gitonga Murugara and his Maara counterpart Kareke Mbiuki.
“We have nothing to celebrate as MCAs because we have no peace from our voters who are bitter with us,” said a bitter MCA.
During their speech, the county top leaders called on the MCAs who have been ‘criticizing’ Njuki’s leadership to ‘embrace unity’ in order to avoid the situation being witnessed in the neighbouring Meru County.
“We want unity and that is why I am asking few leaders who have been criticizing Njuki leadership to embrace unity,” said Mr Mbiuki.
On Monday during the commissioning of Community Health at the governor’s official residence in Kajuki, only three elected MCAs attended.
At the end of the event, Njuki held a meeting with all elected MCAs from Maara to discuss the ‘development agenda’.
The MCAs are also expected to discuss about the proposed supplementary budget to set aside money for the projected El-Nino rains.
