Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has unveiled a significant update for the popular social media chat app, WhatsApp.
In a recent announcement made through his WhatsApp channel, Zuckerberg shared the upcoming feature that will allow users to have two accounts on a single phone and switch between them seamlessly.
During the demonstration, Zuckerberg showcased how he effortlessly switched between his work and personal WhatsApp accounts, both registered under distinct phone numbers.
This feature is expected to provide users with greater flexibility and convenience in managing their digital communications.
While the exact rollout dates for these changes have not been disclosed, it remains uncertain whether the update will be introduced gradually in different regions or all at once.
Zuckerberg stated, “Switch between two accounts on WhatsApp. Soon you will be able to have two WhatsApp accounts on one phone within the app.”
This announcement is anticipated to be a game-changer for WhatsApp users in Kenya, as it will enable them to segregate their work, business, and personal interactions effectively.
As of now, WhatsApp users can only use one account on a single device. However, it’s worth noting that users can still register their accounts on multiple devices.
WhatsApp guidelines advise users with dual SIM phones that they must select one number for verification, as a verified WhatsApp account cannot have two different phone numbers. Frequent switching of WhatsApp accounts between devices could lead to potential account verification issues.
