The embattled Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has been arrested at Ruiga village where she had gone to donate a cow to a needy family.
There are also claims that the county chief forced herself into the police vehicle together with the woman who was to receive the cow ‘just to fake arrest’.
On Sunday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof Kithure Kindiki warned Governor Kawira against going on with the exercise which he had earlier stopped on grounds that its a recipe for violence in the county at the moment.
“I stopped the Okolea initiative and I still insist that it remains so for the purpose of peace,” said Prof Kindiki.
Meru County MPs claimed that even after CS Kindiki stopped the exercise, the Governor still conducts the meetings giving her a platform for ‘insulting other leaders’.
Okolea was banned after fierce fight erupted between supporters of Kawira and her deputy, Mutuma Ntoithingia leading to several injuries.
Journalists were also injured in the chaos and their tools of trade damaged.
