Muraga Technical Training Institute Principal, Ms. Purity Murithi, has reported a significant increase in enrollment for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs during the September intake, attributing this surge to the new government mode of funding.
Ms. Murithi, during a press briefing, revealed that several students who had initially been offered admission to universities opted to enroll in TVET programs upon realizing that the courses they desired were available. This shift in preference has led to a remarkable rise in the number of students joining TVET courses.
The sudden increase in enrollment has created a housing shortage in the vicinity, as more learners are streaming into the institution until the end of this month. Ms. Murithi urged local residents to consider investing in rental properties and businesses to accommodate the growing number of students, thus alleviating the scarcity of rental housing.
Ms. Murithi further emphasized the importance of encouraging local students to enroll in educational institutions within their locality. She urged residents to motivate their children to choose nearby learning institutions to reduce the need for long-distance housing rentals and other associated expenses.
The surge in TVET enrollment at Muraga Technical Training Institute in Tharaka Nithi County highlights the positive impact of the new government funding model on technical and vocational education in the region, while also calling for increased infrastructure to support the growing student population.
