Meru County has been left in a sombre mood after recieving news of the death of former North Imenti Member of Parliament Hon. Silas Muriuki Ruteere.
According to our sources, the deceased died at the age of 74 in a Nairobi hospital after battling an illness for sometime.
The Mp served as a Secretary for KNUT Meru branch for a long time and was also the party leader of Mazingira Green Party.
Former Governor Hon. Kiraitu Murungi was among the first to send a message of condolences through his social media platform, describing the late as a fearless independent leader who dared the “King of Meru” Jackson Angaine in a titanic political battle for North Imenti.
“He will be always celebrated as one of the greatest leaders of Meru, my most sincere condolences to his family, friends and the people of North Imenti,” added Kiraitu.
Agriculture & Livestock Development CS. Mithika Linturi said he was deeply saddened by the news of the passing on of former MP, a man he had the pleasure of serving with in the National Assembly.
“Mr Muriuki was a gallant servant of the people who left an indelible mark wherever he went. His stint as Member of Parliament for North Imenti oversaw a tremendous developmental awakening, a flame that burns bright to date,” said Linturi.
He added that as a long-serving KNUT leader (Executive Secretary for Meru and a member of the KNUT National Executive Council), Muriuki touched many lives, as indeed he did while serving as KANU Chairman, Meru Branch.
“Hon Silas Muriuki’s influence spread beyond the narrow confines of politics, evident in the key role he played in the Methodist Church of Kenya as a leader, preacher, and his leadership roles at the Kenya Methodist University (KEMU),” he further explained.
He noted that not only Meru but Kenya has lost a selfless, indefatigable trade unionist who tirelessly put others before self.
“I have personally lost a close friend and former parliamentary colleague. My thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to his family, constituents, and countrymen during this difficult time,” concluded his statement.
