Kenyan Mau Mau freedom fighter, Field Marshal Muthoni Kirima passed away last night at the age of 92 years.
Several leaders led by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who announced the demise eulogized Muthoni as a great heroine who led the Agikuyu community in the fight against colonialists.
The deceased served as the late Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi’s personal assistant during the fight for freedom.
“I have woken up to sad news of the passing on of Field Marshall Muthoni Kirima, the gallant freedom fighter who fought side by side with Field Marshall Dedan Kimathi Wachiuri in the Mt. Kenya and Aberdare forests to drive colonialists from our land,” said DP Gachagua.
He added “I join her family and descendants of the Mau Mau War of Liberation in mourning the loss of our Mother Field Marshall Muthoni wa Kirima. We recall with pride and sheer admiration, her exploits in leading the land and freedom army after the capture of freedom hero Dedan Kimathi whom she served as his personal assistant, after he was betrayed by Collaborators.”
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga revealed Muthoni was rushed to a hospital in Pangani after developing health problems last night and was pronounced dead on arrival.
The county boss noted that the remains of Muthoni will be moved to Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi awaiting burial.
