Tharaka Nithi Woman Representative has reiterated her committment towards making education accessible in the county.
Speaking at Kiamuchii in Chuka Igambang’ombe constituency where she offered secondary school scholarships to 25 needy students at Kiamuchii Secondary School , the legislator noted that her office spends Ksh 3.8 million out of the allocated Ksh 19.5 million towards bursaries which is divided among the three constituencies in the county.
Ngugi noted that most children in the county did not have access to education scholarships and funding thus denying many of them the opportunity to study.
According to her, Members of Parliament who have five or more wards in their constituency were set to receive additional allocation worth Ksh 175 million from the previous Ksh 145 million, where Ksh 75 million will go towards bursaries.
“Mps have enough money for bursaries disbursed to their offices. So every student has a right to access that money to fund their education. Many children come to me crying for help because they have reached to point of despair in their education.” Ngugi stated.
The legislator while advocating for scholarships for needy students in the county added that her office receives an allocation totaling to 19.5 million, adding that it was the same kitty she uses to actualize affirmtive action projects across the county.
She also urged the national government to use her office in the management of funds meant for the purchase and distribution of sanitary pads in schools, saying her office would be best suited for such projects.
The Woman Representative donated a water tank to Kiamuchii Primary School and awarded full academic scholarships to two students from the locality.
