The Pharmacy and Poisons Board has warned ladies against the use of “Yoni Pearls” or similar unregistered products in Kenya citing potential health risks involved, as their quality and safety cannot be guaranteed.
In a statement issued through their official social media pages, the board warned the public against the use of vaginal pearls to detox their reproductive organs, asking them to refrain from distribution, sale, or use of the products.
“The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) wishes to advise the general public against the use of a product known as ‘Yoni Pearls’, which may also be referred to as vaginal detox pearls, herbal tampons, cleansing pearls, or vaginal pearls,” read part of the statement.
“The PPB notifies the public that ‘Yoni Pearls’ is neither registered nor authorized for use in Kenya as required under the Pharmacy and Poisons Act (Cap 244). Therefore, their usage poses potential public health risks as the PPB cannot guarantee their quality, safety or efficacy”, the statement adds.
Health experts have warned women against Yoni Pearls, adding there was no research that supports the claims of how these pearls work.
“They’re bundles of cloth-wrapped herbs marketed as vaginal or uterus cleansers and detoxifiers. You shouldn’t be putting them inside your body for 1 minute, let alone the 24 to 72 hours recommended on yoni pearl packaging,” Healthline, a popular health website reports.
According to the manufacturers, the herbs in these pearls create a pulling effect that draws toxins, bad bacteria, dead cells, old blood clots, mucus and more from your yoni, while at the same time tightening your yoni and deterring vaginal dryness and other ailments.
