The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has encouraged journalists to join clubs and associations to help in ensuring media sustainability in the country is achieved.
Speaking during a visit to Tharaka Nithi Press Club on Wednesday 02 August, 2023, MCK Regional Chairperson Jackson Karanja noted the council was devoted to building capacities of press clubs through training and workshops.
“Journalism as a profession has its own challenges. When journalists come together, as a council we are able to help their professionalism and assist them achieve their targets. In addition, associations create platforms for support and exchange of ideas”, he said.
Karanja urged journalists ensure they are accredited by MCK, to improve professionalism and ensure that they have the right skills to carry out their duties in line with the code of conduct for the practice of journalism in the country.
Tharaka Nithi Press Club Chairperson Alex Njeru in his remarks noted that the council’s visit had equipped the club with necessary skills towards achieving its targets and called on other journalists to empower themselves through such associations.
MCK presented the club with a cheque as part of the council’s initiative to support clubs and associations actualize their projects.
