Parents at Nyakinjeru School, Chiakariga Ward in Tharaka have been left in shock after receiving a court order to vacate their children from the school on claims that the school was on a private land.
The parents were forced to visit Tharaka Nithi Governor’s office to seek his assistance and ensure their children would go back to school and learning was not interrupted.
Aaron Makembo, a parent at the school said they had been told not to step foot in the school leaving them with no option but keep their children away fearing for their security but called upon the Governor to look in the issue for a way forward.
“I went to school here and I have been a parent in this school for many years where some of my children are employed others in the University but I have never heard of Nyakinjeru being in private land or even having a new owner,” lamented a parent.
She said the children are now at home just as the new term begun where other pupils had already commenced learning which is unfair and that the government needs to intervene and investigate this new development.
The parents who remain adamant that the school is on public land have vowed not to relent in seeking a seating with the leadership and ministry until the matter is resolved.
No one from the ministry of education had come to the school to address the concerned parents or given a response while the head teacher remains unavailable for comment.
