The Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) for Igembe North Sub-County and the Officer-in-Charge of the of the General Service Unit (GSU) command in the area have been removed following the recent livestock theft raid.
This comes after a recent Baraza at Ndoleli Chief’s Camp in Antubetwe Kiongo, Igembe North Constituency of Meru County where the Cabinet Secretary Interior and National Administration Kithure Kindiki was in attendance.
During the Baraza, members of the public gave recommendation on measures to curb the issue which left immediate former area MCA Hon. George Kaliunga brutally killed.
Through a press statement distributed to media houses, Prof Kindiki said that the police were winding up with the probe on the murder to ensure all the the culprits were prosecuted.
“The police have made progress and investigations intelligence teams are closing in on suspects who once arrested and will be arraigned in court to face charges of murder and other related offenses,” he said.
The security measures are already in high gear with the logistics for establishing an Anti-Stock Theft Police Unit (ASTU) facility at Loloro complete and the Camp will be operational from tomorrow 10th of May, 2023.
Members of the public also requested the Government to procure a police vehicle and upgrade of one of the police which Kindiki said was in the process while two more Police Posts will be established along this border.
“We have up scaled intelligence-led security surveillance in the area. To this end, the County and Sub-County Security and Intelligence teams have intensified their surveillance to ensure there will be no recurrence of cattle rustling activities in the area,” added the Cabinet Secretary.
