Former prime minister and Azimio La Umoja leader Raila Odinga has criticized the government on the proposed 2023/2024 Finance Bill.
Speaking to the press in Nairobi, Raila said that Kenyans were surviving hand to mouth as the government aims to get more tax from them.
He said that for five years Kenya’s public service workers have never had any pay increase and to go ahead and increase tax was mockery.
In the Bill, the government proposed to increase tax by 15% to fund government with regards to the hefty loans that the government has acquired over the last few years.
Raila also criticized the government proposal to deduct every Kenyan 3% of their earnings to fund government affordable housing plan which was not going to be for all.
He insisted it was hard that Kenyans were suffering in deplorable condition due to the high cost of living and the taxation was pouring salt to their wounds.
He added that they will rally all Azimio la umoja One leaders in parliament to vote against it insisting that Kenyans should regard it as Kenya Kwanza bill.
